Number of Female Cyclists Lags in New York, With... →
I’ve certainly noticed the lack of female cyclists in NYC, but I can’t say this article helps answer any of my questions about why, in a city with rapidly improving bike infrastructure, male cyclists still outnumber female cyclists 3 to 1.  The best answer this article gives is that women are afraid of cycling’s “risks” and afraid of their own sweat.  New York is a...

It was a fantastic class, even though it brought up more questions than it answered.  We watched a lot of TV and we talked about a lot of TV, and from this we tried to figure out TV’s significance to young people.  What really is the difference between TV and other mediums, such...

Ushahidi
A colleague of mine gave a talk last night on the crowd-source mapping tool Ushahidi (Swahili for “Testimony”).  It’s an amazing open source tool originally developed to help visualize violence in Kenya based on reports from mobile devices.  Since then it’s been used to track the spread of war or crime in many other areas, including the current conflict in Libya.
